Play Africa is thrilled to announce new grant funding from the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) in support of a new programme, The World I See.
Play Africa is a nonprofit organisation based at the Constitution Hill human rights precinct in Johannesburg. For over eight years, Play Africa has designed, piloted, implemented, evaluated and scaled innovative nation-building and pro-democracy programmes, rooted in South Africa’s democratic Constitution. Play Africa engages thousands of children and families each year through immersive, playful learning.
A new programme, The World I See will draw on methodologies proven in Play Africa’s award-winning programmes:
- Children’s Voices introduces children to their constitutional rights and democratic values through participatory activities, such as mock trials and elections, empowering them to practise dialogue, democratic decision-making and respect for the rule of law.
- Bridges of Peace brings together South African and migrant children to foster empathy, ubuntu and social inclusion, countering xenophobia, bullying and violence through dialogue, creative expression and collaborative exhibits.
- Design Thinking with Children equips children with tools to identify challenges and co-create safe, inclusive community spaces, successfully piloted in several African countries.
Together, these initiatives have proven Play Africa’s track record in cultivating resilience, reducing vulnerability to conflict, and promoting a generation of active citizens.
The CFLI is a global programme that supports small-scale, high-impact projects in developing countries that align with Global Affairs Canada’s key priorities. The High Commission of Canada in South Africa selects the locally-designed projects, and supports positive bilateral relations between Canada and South Africa and its civil society.
This is the third time Play Africa has received valuable support from the CFLI programme. We are excited to leverage these resources to positively impact the lives of children in South Africa!
